Additional Uses For After 5 Fragrance Roll Ons

Because uncut fragrance oils can be harmful to skin and also because they often do not smell best undiluted, they must be cut with a skin friendly addidive. There are several different bases that can be mixed with fragrance oils to create a perfume. The most popluar bases are pefumer's alcohol, cyclomethicone, and jojoba oil. I have chosen to use jojoba oil for my After 5 Roll Ons because it is the most versatile. At Cherry City, I really strive to create mulitple use products so check out the list below to see some of the many things you can do with your After 5's besides just scent yourself.

*Pour some in jacuzzi
*Mix some with cornstarch and make a body powder

Gimme Some Sugar...Vegan Sugar!

A few people have asked me why I use the term "vegan sugar" on my product discriptions for my Sugar Shea Scrubs. "Isn't all sugar vegan?" They want to know. The simple answer is no. The complicated answer is that it is difficult to tell if it is vegan sugar or not, but it more likely is not.

About half of the white sugar manufactured in the US is beet sugar and the other half is cane sugar. The bleaching process for cane sugar is done using a charcoal activation system which may be of animal, vegetable or mineral origin. Over half of the refineries use animal bone char as their charcol. This process is never necessary for beet sugar. All beet sugar is vegan.

Adding to the complication is the labeling process. Why not just use beet sugar? It usually impossible for the consumer to descern beet sugar from cane sugar because often the ingredients simply say "sugar." It is not required that manufacturers specify where it comes from or how it is processed.

Because I label my products vegan, I have chosen to not use any cane sugar unless it is raw. This is why my scrubs are made with turbinado sugar which has not been bleached. The result is a coarse, long lasting and lightly foaming scrub with excellent exfoliation properties that is proudly 100% cruelty free.

Amber Morning Sensual, seductive, alluring blend of smoky black cherry, Creme Anglaise, and sandalwood, with a smooth dry down of warming, sensual amber and an Egyptian Musk end note. The slightest hint of vanilla bean anchors the musk note to soften the impact and entice you to take another sniff! Beloved by both men and women!

Protect Yourself Against E-tailer Fraud

There is no question that the internet has revolutionized the way we shop. And why not? Not only can you can shop at 3 a.m. in your pajamas on your worst hair day, even if you have a communicable disease but there are a plethora of online e-tailers vying to be the one to make your wallet cry. With so many shopping choices, and new ones making the scene all the time, how do you know if one is reputable? According to a recent National Retail Federation press release (Shop.org), online purchases of cosmetics and fragrances are expected to experience growth rates over 30 percent, more than any other categories. With the growing trend of home based businesses and the growing rate of fraud, it may feel risky. A recent case of mail fraud in my own home town has affected many of my online friends and has got me thinking of ways I can protect my customers. Below are some tips to help decide the risk factor for that cute new online boutique you are considering.

What payment methods do they accept? While there is nothing wrong with taking only old fashioned paypal and on is own should not be much of a red flag, a company that has taken the effort to incorporate a credit card system of any kind (including processing that is done by Paypal such as Paypal Standard or Paypal Pro, which does not require the customer to have a Paypal account), not only has invested some time and money, but also, most likely has had to go through a credit check by that gateway company.

It really is in the fine print: Look closely at the labels, past the cute artwork. Does the company follow the FDA guidelines for labeling? Some things that should be included on all products applied to the skin are a full list of ingredients, size, directions for use and any warnings as well as the city, state and zip code the product was made in. Why is this important to your pocket book? Because an e-tailer that has taken the time to be educated on FDA regulations and to implement them show that they care about quality and are in it for the long haul.

Check the reviews: This one may seem obvious, but consider this: most word of mouth is positive; 80% of product ratings are 4 or 5 stars out of 5 in the us 88% are 4 out of five stars in the UK (J Curve, Bazaarvoice and Keller Fay). When people like something, they want others to know! Additionally, 61% of people rely on user reviews for product information or research before a buying decision is made (Razorfish, 2008)
And 84% of consumers said they were more likely to check online for reviews before making a purchase compared two 12 months ago, according to a recent survey by Brand Reputation (Retail Bulletin, October 2009).

Search them: Don’t just rely on website reviews. Do an engine search for other feedback. Check places like Artfire and Etsy to see if they have additional shops. Check for comments on Facebook and Twitter and read reviews on places like Make Up Alley.

Just ask: If in doubt, there is nothing wrong with asking to see a business license (keep in mind though that some cities do not require this), business registry certificate or insurance certificate. A sketchy business person will not have a paper trail and it is unlikely that they will have put forth the time and money to obtain these.

I need to reiterate that this is just a guide. There are many new companies just starting our or small hobby soap makers this will always wish to remain small. It should go without saying that just because someone uses Paypal exclusively or leaves the city off their labels doesn’t mean they are going to rip you off. However, if you notice that several things don’t jive, you should take everyone’s mother’s advice trust your instinct.

I am technologically challenged. I don't try to hide it, it isn't my fault, I come from a long line of technologically challenged people. Until I had children of my own, I was convinced that the reason my parents had kids (long before remotes were available) was so they had someone to get up and change the TV channels.

About a year ago, my family went from having no TV at all to having a large screen with DVR and Blu Ray. This involves three remotes. My daughter explained to me which remote goes with which electronic miracle. Then my son explained it to me again....about 13 more times. I still have to call one of them in from the next room to change the channel.

So when the time came that I needed a website... for me, it was undoubtedly the most unnerving part of starting a business. Not only did I have to ask someone for something when I didn't even know what I needed, I had to trust this person to deliver what I couldn't communicate, because my business depended on it.

Enter Simone Russell. After about two months of her patiently replying to my endless emails which she had to dumb down to about a fourth grade level, I put her out of her misery (or began it) and hired her to create Cherry City's ecommerce website.

Since she is in Austraila and I am in the USA, I was a bit concerned about how communication would work, but it was really no problem. We have been able to do everything via email where she explains the things I need to understand and doesn't bore me with the things I don't. Plus she uses really cute words like "lovely" and "dear." Last night I got a peek at the website's progress and cannot express how happy I am with it. She truly has a creative eye. It is rare that a person can be both technical and artistic. The other day my husband asked me...in a way as to help me focus, "Who is your target audience?" "Well I am!" I said. As usual with me, I waited until after I said it and then began to think about it. Since I am my own best customer, what kind of consumer am I?


I want fresh products made with quality ingredients: Many of those large chains have products sitting around for years. Ever go to those semi-annual sales and they bring out the same five bottles of lotion that was discontinued 5, 6, 7 years ago? Our products are made to order in small batches using good for you stuff like, shea butter, pumpkin seed oil, jojoba oil, green tea extract, and NO parabens.


I want never-ending scent choices to indulge my ADHD: We have over 200 scents and more being blended every day (to ensure that you won't smell like THAT girl).


I want no animal products or animal by-products. While I am not opposed to eating cheese, for some reason, I don't want to rub it into my skin: All of our products are 100% vegan, no animal bits here. We source all of our ingredients from only wholesalers who have assured us in writing, that they have not and will not test on animals.


I want contemporary packaging that looks nice on my countertop: Our aluminum bottles and clear jars look clean, modern and understated...not like a blue light special threw up next to the sink (and if you are too young to know what a blue light special is, our retro Happy Hour lip gloss tins probably aren't so retro for you, either, but you will still love 'em!).
